5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BAD BREATH

Hi People!

Dr Shervin here from Artistic Dental Studio with another blog.

In this blog, I’m going to address 5 FAQs about bad breath. We all know how drastically bad breath could affect our lives. it could cause lack of self-confidence, reduce social encounters, affect sex life, and so on and so forth.

After reading this blog, you’ll get an idea about what could cause bad breath and how you can tackle that.

Question one:

Where is it coming from?

Bad breath (halitosis) could have numerous causes. Let’s divide them into 2 groups: intraoral and extraoral.

Intraoral source could be because of:

Poor oral hygiene
Gum disease
Infected teeth
Cavities
Fillings or crowns with gaps
Furred tongue
Tonsillitis
Some mucosal diseases of the mouth
Blockage or infection of salivary glands
Lack of saliva
Extraoral causes could be:

Sinusitis
Otitis
Gastrointestinal problems
Respiratory problems
Some systemic diseases (diabetes)
Question two:

Who shall we go to?

First of all, you need to see your GP to make sure there are no systemic causes. Then, your dentist could help you find the source intraorally.

Question three:

What will be done at dentist’s?

You need to go through a comprehensive examination including charting, photos, X Rays and possibly some other tests. Once all information is gathered, dentist could let you know what course you need to follow to achieve the best result.

Question four:

What is the most common cause of bad breath in mouth?

Firstly, poor oral hygiene. Twice brushing and once flossing daily is a must and this is what needs to be done correctly. The use of mouthwash is complementary and could never replace brushing or flossing.

Secondly, gum disease. It’s Unfortunately relatively painless and unnoticed by patients. Tartar, plaque, and deep pockets around the teeth are a good niche for bacteria to thrive and produce bad smell.

I hope this block could have helped you get a rough idea what bad breath is and how it could be controlled.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
